THOSE WHO IGNORE HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT.
- By Hal NetkinNovember, 2008
The "expert analysts" are trying to figure out how a little known far left senator who palled around with the most repugnant human beings managed to win a presidential election to soon become the most powerful leader in the world.
Republican pundits are wondering what they could have done better to have won the presidential election to hold onto the White House.
Blind to the pink elephant right there in the living room.
History tells us that a democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money with the result of the democracy collapsing over loose fiscal policy. The growing masses of the people's dependency brings expectations for more to be given to them, no matter the future consequences. Leaders who will give to people more money for less work are worshipped as heroes.
Let's be honest. Obama won the presidency because he was the "highest bidder." To the liberal left and the welfare class, he promised national health care, government paid abortion on demand, job creation, government paid-for higher education for their children, promised to end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, get the world to like us, tax the rich even more than they are already taxed, and distribute the wealth. To business, he promised a foreign guest worker program to provide them with cheap labor. And to the working class, he promised to support strong labor unions, and take jobs back from abroad.
And to the estimated 12 to 20 million illegal aliens already in the U.S., he promised "Earned Legalization" (Amnesty), no more work place raids, and family reunification.
Barack Obama's Amnesty won't work this time anymore than it did in 1986
The Census Bureau estimates that there are about 12 million illegal aliens currently in the U.S. But because illegal aliens tend to be reticent about providing information to the Census Bureau, other estimates indicate the number to be as high as 20 million and climbing.
Without reflecting on history, Barack Obama promised to pass "comprehensive" immigration reform within the first year in office. 12 to 20 million illegal aliens residing in the U.S would be granted "earned legalization," a code phrase for amnesty.
In 1986, under then President Ronald Reagan, Congress passed the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA). This law granted amnesty to illegal aliens in the U.S. who could show that they had been in the U.S. since 1982 (there was another one-year period to apply for amnesty between May 5, 1987 and May 5, 1988). "Proof" of residency since 1982 was satisfied by presenting an unverified letter from an acquaintance or an employer. I personally wrote a (truthful) letter on behalf of my mother's house cleaner declaring that she had worked continuously for my mother since prior to 1982. No one from the state department ever called me to verify the truthfulness of the letter.
No one really knows how many illegal aliens suddenly crossed the border in 1986 who presented unverified letters claiming to have been in the U.S. since 1982 in order to get in on the amnesty bandwagon. Amnesty recipients could after five years, become U.S. citizens, but becoming a citizen was not a condition to receive amnesty.
In 1986, the government argued that since the principal reason migrants immigrate illegally to the U.S. is in search of jobs, that enforcement of workplace sanctions would discourage further illegal immigration and would even have unemployed illegal aliens who did not qualify for amnesty, scampering back to their country. This made sense to most Americans including myself.
Under IRCA, nearly 3 million illegal aliens (most from Mexico) gained legal residency. That was billed as an answer to end illegal immigration. But after a pause, illegal migration mostly from Mexico resumed its upward climb. In retrospect, but not now surprisingly, IRCA actually encouraged others to take the trek north in the belief that eventually they too would be granted amnesty -- and that is exactly what will happen if and when Obama delivers on his amnesty promise.
Instead of the 1986 amnesty ending illegal immigration, it spread across the U.S. like wild fire.
When my Mexican immigrant wife and I visited her family in Mexico in 2000, Alejandro, one of my brothers-in-law asked my wife, a naturalized U.S. citizen, to legally petition for his immigration to the U.S.
U.S. citizens may legally petition for siblings of any age. We agreed to fill out the necessary paperwork to start the petition process for Alejandro and three of my wife's other siblings.
Two months after our return to Los Angeles, my wife was shocked to receive a telephone call from Alejandro in Oxnard, California, working as an ice cream vendor. Alejandro had illegally entered the U.S. for a job. Alejandro's decision not to wait several years for a visa to immigrate legally was based on most every Mexican's knowledge that once in the U.S., it is virtually legal to be illegal.
Within a year, two more of my brothers-in-law who could have immigrated legally followed Alejandro's path of illegal entry.
Over years of non-enforcement of our immigration laws, the distinction between legal and illegal immigrants has become so blurred that my brothers-in-law had no incentive to do it the legal way. Simply crossing illegally got them all the advantages of those who did it legally -- but sooner.
Obama and the Democrat Party will render the Republican Party irrelevant in one generation
PRESIDENT BUSH AND THE REPUBLICANS BLEW IT
Instead of a course of enforcing our immigration laws during his presidency, President Bush and most Republicans in congress decided in 2007, to join the liberal Democrats to commit America to national suicide by pushing "legalization."
Republicans rationalized their desire to legalize 12 million illegal aliens with the mythical belief that all Hispanic immigrants share the same family values as they do and will all become Republicans (President Bush was often heard to say "family values don't stop at the Rio Grand".)
The chief incentive for Illegal aliens to sneak into the U.S. is Jobs supplemented with money and entitlements offered by our government -- not family values. And immigrants overwhelmingly believe that the jobs, money, and the entitlements they want will come from Democrats, the party that will deliver the biggest reward for illegal behavior.
EXPONENTIAL POPULATION GROWTH:
Obama and his party will grant amnesty to an estimated 12 to 20 million high fertility illegal aliens now residing in the U.S. Even if they never become citizens, their offspring would yield as much as 30 million Democrat voting citizens in just one generation (See Roy Beck's famous gum ball demonstration video by clicking here).
IMPORTING POVERTY:
If amnesty were the answer to stopping future illegal immigration, I would be for it as I was in 1986. But it won't! That's because along with amnesty granted to those already here, millions more of impoverished aliens will illegally cross our borders in the hopes that they too will eventually receive amnesty.
When employers find that they must pay their millions of amnestied workers higher wages (over the table), provide them with health insurance, decent working conditions, pensions, etc., they will go right back to hiring newly arrived illegal alien workers who will work for lower pay than those legalized.
This cycle of serial amnesties will most certainly hatch 30 million uneducated third world immigrants (mostly from Mexico) in the next ten years who will honor their dependence on government by always supporting politicians who will give them the most for a "better life."
BUT THEY CAN'T VOTE, CAN THEY?:
Illegal aliens can't vote in elections (although some do), but they can virtually vote just by being present in the U.S.
The House of Representatives is made up of 435 representatives -- this number never changes. The only changes that take place is the number of constituents represented per congressional representative. The number of constituents per representative is determined by dividing the nation's total population by the number of representatives. According to the census bureau, today's U.S. population is 300 million. Dividing 300 million by 435 representatives equals on average, one representative for every 700,000 residents.
Under present rules, congressional representatives represent the number of persons in their districts. Regrettably, whether those persons are legally in the U.S. or not does not matter -- they still count as constituents. That is why groups such as La Raza and MALDEF urge illegal aliens to be counted in the taking of the census. In a case where there is a shift in demography, one state can lose representation to another state. California is one state that has districts high with illegal alien constituents. Representatives of high immigrant districts tend to be sympathetic to illegal immigration. That is how massive numbers of non-citizen immigrants, legal and illegal, actually have political clout proportional to their population numbers.
THE CONSEQUENCES OF AMNESTY:
It is inconceivable that Obama and the Democrat congress are ignorant to the terrible consequences of another amnesty. On the contrary, they view the "terrible" consequences as a means to justify an "important" aim -- complete political one party elitist control of America.
Advocates for the amnesty and a guest worker program say that illegal aliens will come out of the so called shadows who will turn themselves in so that the government will know who they are and where they are from. From the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) page: "if you are not a U.S. citizen, the law still requires that you report any change of address change within 10 days of the change.." This law is not enforced! Green card holders almost never report that they have moved much less illegal aliens. If presently, legal resident Green Card holders don't bother to report their change of address, does anyone believe that if a "Comprehensive" immigration reform plan which includes amnesty is enacted that all aliens -- legal or illegal living in the "shadows" -- will come forward to register with the government? And with 30 million new immigrants in the next 10 years, does anyone believe that the ICE will seek out those aliens who fail to report their whereabouts? The U.S. would become a free-for-all for all aliens -- legal or not including criminal and terrorist aliens who will not come forward out of the "shadows" because illegal aliens aren't living in the shadows in the first place. They work; they drive cars with or without licenses; they collect welfare; they hold office and vote in local elections; they testify in state capitals; and they hold public demonstrations.
Immigrating to America is most appealing to the poorest uneducated persons from third world countries who require more costly social services for themselves, their families, and elderly retired relatives who will join them, than they will pay in taxes. According to the Social Security Administration, at the present rate of immigration, benefits for retirees by the year 2040 will be reduced by 26 percent and would continue to be reduced every year thereafter -- that's without an amnesty. With an amnesty, the next generation of American retirees will be disappointed when the 100 million to 200 million increase in America's population in the next 20 years due to serial amnesties and chain migration will bankrupt Social Security by 2040. Local and state treasuries will quickly be over burdened and exhausted (this is already happening in California). The federal government of the U.S (which is already the world's greatest debtor nation), will be called upon to bail out bankrupt localities. The federal government will be forced to print bailout money causing unimaginable inflation.
FRAUD: It is ironic that in 1986, amnesty would be given only to those illegal aliens who had been in the U.S. since 1982, but not to anyone who had arrived to the U.S. after 1982, and you can expect the Obama amnesty to have a similar requirement. In other words, illegal aliens would only be rewarded with amnesty only if they had been violating immigration law for a long period of time. Knowing this, tens of thousands, perhaps millions of illegal aliens, will illegally flood the U.S. before any "comprehensive" amnesty legislation is even signed, who will present fraudulent letters from friends and "former employers" claiming to have been present in the U.S. for the required time in order to get in on the amnesty.
Document fraud, already a thriving industry, will grow to enormous levels. In Los Angeles like most other American cities, obtaining a fake document is as easy as going to the grocery store to buy a loaf of bread.
For the millions of illegal aliens who won't get in on amnesty who will surely cross our borders anyway to wait for the next amnesty, (apart from legal drivers licenses), fake documents will be their way of life.
TERRORISM: Advocates of amnesty claim that illegal aliens' backgrounds will be screened so that only "law abiding" illegal aliens will be awarded with amnesty.
When anyone applying for legal immigration status fills out the necessary form and mails it to the U.S. CIS (Citizenship and Immigration Service - formerly known as the INS), they receive an NOA (Notice of Action) which is nothing more that a receipt of the immigration application form and the filing fee. It is NOT a final APPROVAL.
Other than a clerk skimming submitted immigration applications for typos, none of the information on any applications is immediately verified.
So called "thorough" background checks are done only at the time just before a visa is issued (presently, there is a 13 year waiting time between the time persons in their home countries apply for an immigration visa, to the time they receive it).
On the NOA itself, it states "It usually takes 815 to 825 days from the date of the receipt for us to process this type of (any) case." That's over two years before the DHS might get around to verifying the information on the form -- IF AT ALL! In other words, any criminal background checks of anyone who is illegally residing in the U.S. will not take place for at least two years and possibly up to 13 years after applying for legal status.
In April, 2002, then INS director, James Ziglar, explained to the National Press Club how it was that Mohamed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi, the two terrorists who had their visas approved six months after their 9/11 suicide deaths, before anyone knew that they were terrorists, referred the NOA which each of the two terrorists had received six months before 9/11, as approval documents.
Background checks of persons applying for immigration visas are normally done by the American embassy in the home country of the applicant -- not after the applicant arrives in the U.S.
An amnesty would require 12 to 20 million illegal aliens already present in the U.S. to turn in their bogus documents to the DHS (Department of Homeland Security), have their backgrounds checked, and apply to Social Security for new valid social security cards.
It will be virtually impossible to check the background of 12 to 20 million illegal aliens at the time that congress would approve of an amnesty. Aliens would have to apply for legal status in the same way that Mohamed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi did. The waiting list to be background checked even if the DHS streamlined the checking procedure, would be months to years. The only document that alien applicants would have while waiting to have their background checked, would be an NOA.
It is important to note that background checks of illegal aliens residing in the U.S. can only reveal criminal activity in the U.S. -- there is no database that can be searched which would reveal their true identity and/or criminal activity committed in the applicant's home country. In other words, if an applicant for amnesty was a fugitive wanted for murder in his home country but had never committed a crime in the U.S., that applicant could assume a new identity and would pass the background check.
Does anyone doubt that a massive amnesty would be an open invitation to criminals, deadbeat dads, and terrorists? Can you imagine the chaos that would take place with millions of amnesty applicants? There would be unimaginable administrative chaos that would add new meaning to the phrase: "our immigration system is broken."
IS THERE HOPE IN WARDING OFF MASSIVE FUTURE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION?:
Unfortunately, in spite of the imminent disastrous consequences of amnesty, the elitists: President elect Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senator John McCain (who has offered to help) are dead set on rewarding those who have broken our immigration laws, with amnesty.
There is a slim hope. With the economy meltdown and unemployment of Americans expected to rise to depression levels, Obama would be insane to push an Amnesty. Instead Obama should seek solid support from the American people by declaring that due to the failing economy, the millions of jobs being held by illegal aliens now, would have to go to Americans (McCain would have won if he had said this).
If the president insists on national suicide, hopefully, the congress won't. But since congressional elections are coming up in 2010, the "elites" want to rush through an amnesty in 2009 to obviate the threat of Democrat election losses to congress in 2010.
Two long shot situations could change the course of Obama's amnesty agenda: Another 9/11 before any amnesty legislation is made into law or the Supreme Court invalidates Obama's presidency.
THE ANSWER:
Obama and the many politicians hell bent on amnesty, claim that there are only two choices -- deportation or amnesty -- with deportation off the table because it would not be possible to deport 12 to 20 million illegal aliens.
But don't hold your breath waiting for Obama and the Democrat congress to consider Attrition Through Enforcement.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
I recommend supporting NumbersUSA. That is the group that was most instrumental in getting the senate to kill amnesty in 2007. NumbersUSA will make it easy for you to call your senators and congressional representatives to say that you are opposed to illegal alien legalization of any kind.
