The argument that children shouldn't be punished for the parents' mistakes, begs the question: Why then, aren't the parents punished?

Let's make this analogy: A father robs a liquor store and gives the money to his needy child. When the father is caught for the offense, should his child be able to keep the money because she should not be punished for her father's mistake -- and then free the father? Of course not!
